Didn’t Get A Flu Shot Yet? You’ll Want One Thanks To The Next NJ Shortage
The shortages continue to wreak havoc in New Jersey and across the country.
First, we had no toilet paper, then no coins, no aluminum cans and most recently, a severe shortage of the ADHD medication Adderall.
According to ABC7NY.com, there is another health-related shortage just when we thought it couldn't get any worse.
There is now a scarcity of amoxicillin.
In case you are not familiar, amoxicillin is, "the drug [most] commonly used to treat many illnesses, like ear and throat infections, [especially] in children."
I was put on amoxicillin so many times as a kid that the medication basically doesn't work on me anymore. But we use it because it works.
Why will this have you running for a flu shot?
Because of course, we start to run dangerously low on this important medication at the start of cold and flu season.
Make no mistake. The flu is a virus.
However, this is the time of year when I personally always get ear infections, bronchitis, strep throat and other infections that only seem to surface during these germy and cold times of year.
Germs are everywhere.
Don't tell but as of now, I haven't gotten my flu shot yet. I've had an appointment that I had to cancel but now I will definitely reschedule.
Are we completely out of other common medications yet? No, not as far as I know.
But it is like being out of butter when it is time to start cooking. Are there other ingredients? Yes.
But everyone keeps ten pounds of butter stocked in their fridge for a reason.
The fact that this is happening with a medication, makes it a little scary for me.
According to ABC7NY.com, the FDA is actively working on the issue. Once we have another update on this topic I will let you know immediately.
Do not panic. I just want you to have all the information so you can make a decision with all the facts, flu shot or not.
Stay healthy and wash your hands this germy season!
