The ratings for Tuesday night’s All-Star game were up only slightly from last summer’s record low numbers. The extra-inning American League victory on Fox was viewed by about 23 million, a 6% increase from 2016.

Despite the increase “America’s Got Talent” won the prime-time ratings battle for the evening.

For the first time in eight years an American male has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon as Sam Querry upset top-seed and defending champion Andy Murray on Wednesday.   The 29-year old San Francisco native will face Marin Cilic in the semifinal round on Friday.

I caught a good portion of last night’s 25th annual ESPY Awards which is sort of like the Academy Awards for sports.  Some very moving and inspirational moments and tributes and among the winners was Bob Hurley Sr. who received an ESPY for “Best Coach.”

Hurley of course not only guided St. Anthony’s for more than 40 years but kept the Jersey City school open for years before losing that battle this past spring as the doors closed in June for the final time.

If you watch a lot of pro football you have no doubt seen dozens and dozens of commercials that start with “when the moment is right, will you be ready?” I’m talking about the ads for Cialis and Viagra which by the way draw very favorable reviews from men because they feature very attractive women.

The erectile dysfunction TV commercials will be fading away because the patents on both drugs are set to expire and generic versions are expected to flood the market.

Cialis & Viagra spent over $200 million combined on television last year with much of that on sports, especially the NFL and ESPN.  My least-favorite of the commercials are the ones where the man and women end up in separate outdoor bathtubs overlooking the water and mountains…really?
