Less than two weeks away to Election Day and a good time to see how some men feel about the process of choosing our leader.

I turn to the November issue of Men’s Health for some numbers:

  • 62% of those surveyed said they voted in the 2008 Presidential election with 90% expected to cast ballots this November.
  • 85% will watch the results on TV.
  • 80% said they would tune it at some point to at least one of the debates.
  • 32% say they change the channel when a campaign ad appears on TV.
  • 1 in 4 admits they don’t look at the issues before voting.
  • 1 in 5 say they would not date a woman with opposite political views.
  • 44% of men surveyed say they discuss politics where they work and 25% of them have gotten into an argument with a co-worker.
  • 32% admit that as they get older their political views are starting to moreclosely resemble their parents.
  • Less than half a percent give more than $200 a year to candidates and causes.
  • 70% of men say they are not happy with the direction our country is heading and 2 in 5 of them have even written a letter to an elected official expressing their displeasure.
  • Almost 10% admit that who the First Lady will be is a factor in which candidate gets their vote.
  • If there was one debate master they could bring back to the White House the choice would be Ronald Reagan.
  • Jon Stewart is the political commentator they trust the most…Rush Limbaugh’s opinions have little chance to sway them in any way.
  • The top three excuses men will give for not voting are too busy, not interested and don’t like any of the choices.
  • By the way this is a good time for movie fans to catch a political thriller and film critic Michael J. Phillips recommends All the King’s Men, The Manchurian Candidate and All the President’s Men.  One of my favorites is The Candidate, a 1972 movie starring Robert Redford.

High School football tonight on the Shore Sports Network finds Lacey looking to clinch the Class A South title with a win at Brick.  Kickoff at 7pm and all the action on 105.7FM.
