You probably don’t want to make any plans for late October next year especially in you believe that bad things do come in threes.

It was Saturday, October 29th of last year when we got hit with a freak storm that brought snow to the area.  I was at Penn State that day with my wife tailgating in the parking lot with 7 inches of snow on the ground.  It wasn’t that bad here but the white stuff fell with many thinking that it would make for a long winter. Of course we know that was not the case.

I mention this because October 29th of this year is Monday and we might be dealing with a major nor’easter as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  While the projected path is still uncertain we in Ocean County could see heavy rain and wind.

The big concern for many is whether it will impact Halloween with trick or treating for many in our area on Tuesday, the day before Halloween.

Undefeated and top-seed Freehold Boro will face #2 seed Toms River North in the finals of the Shore Conference Girls Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon after both managed close, hard-fought victories in the semifinals yesterday.  The North Mariners topped Freehold Township 2-1 on Kate Galgano’s first goal of the season three minutes into the first overtime while Freehold needed penalty kicks to outlast Red Bank Catholic.  Shannon Groffie also scored for the Mariners, who improved to 16-1 under Coach Jerry Klimek.

It will be a busy weekend for the Ocean County College soccer program with both the men and women playing for Region 19 titles and berths in the national tournament.   The Viking men will host Union County College Saturday at 2:30 while the women, who are ranked 2nd in the nation will host Gloucester County College tomorrow at 2:30.

The high school football weekend begins tonight for the Shore Sports Network with the latest edition of the Barnabas Health High School Football Show on 105.7FM at 7pm.  Guests tonight will include coaches L.J. Clarke of Lakewood and Shane Fallon of Rumson along with players from their program during our live broadcast at the Water Street Grill.

Tomorrow night we will broadcast the Lacey at Brick game in which we’ll get our first look at the Green Dragons Anthony Starego, who kicked the game-winning field goal against Toms River North last week.  Starego, who has autism, appeared on NBC’s “Today” Show Wednesday with his parents.
