Man Struck, Killed By NJ Transit Train
New Jersey Transit says a man was struck and killed by a train in Aberdeen.
The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, as the southbound North Jersey Coast Line train pulled into the Aberdeen-Matawan station. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later. His name has not been disclosed.
NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll tells the Asbury Park Press that a preliminary investigation determined the man circumvented downed railroad gates to enter the track area, but his reason for doing so remains unclear.
No one aboard the Long Branch-bound train was injured. Carroll says the 200 passengers aboard were transferred to another train to complete their journey.
