BROWNS MILLS - A Holmdel high schooler's death on the lacrosse field, this past September, serves as yet another grim reminder that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can strike healthy young teens without warning. Deborah Heart and Lung Center  invites teen students from any school district to a free screening, October 21 in Hightstown.

Deborah's "Love Your Heart" clinic, 9 AM until 2 PM at East Windsor High School, is for students aged 12 to 19. Students need not be enrolled in athletic programs to be eligible.

SCA is the acknowledged number-one health-related cause of death among US adolescents, affecting an estimated 2,000 annually. Pediatricians, customarily, do not perform routine cardiac screenings for teenagers.

Registrants have access to tests for blood pressure, body mass index, heart murmur, electrocardiograms, and if needed, echocardiograms. Deborah cardiologists evaluate the results and send the information confidentially to parents.

All screenings are by appointment. The school is on Leshin Lane in HIghtstown. Register and get more information here.
