Car slams pole in Manchester, Brick Township driver hurt
A Brick Township man is recovering from multiple injuries he sustained when his car rammed a utility pole and landed on its side on Route 70 in Manchester Monday night.
Police say that a good Samaritan helped Michael Cruz, 46, out of his Nissan on the shoulder of the highway near NJ Self Storage. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for examination of leg, arm and neck pain.
Investigators said that Cruz was eastbound on the highway at about 8:10 PM when the 2000 Maxima veered off the road, hit the pole, turned 180 degrees, and came to a halt facing westbound on the berm.
Police offered no details about his rate of speed, traffic volume at the time of the crash, possible distractions, or possible mitigating factors such as road or light conditions.
Manchester Patrolman Patrick Cervenak continues the investigation.
