Happy September! For many the first day of the month is nothing to celebrate as it marks the end. Of course it also marks a beginning.

• This might have been the best summer ever in terms of weather for those who love the beach. With the exception of a handful of bad days you pretty much could have spent just about every day from July 4th on at the beach. The water was warm and clean and until a couple of weeks ago very calm.

• Speaking of the water. Congratulations to Doug Maday who on Monday completed his odyssey of taking a dip in the Atlantic Ocean for 365 consecutive days. The 51-year old Seaside Park native and Island Heights resident was first motivated by wanting to extend the summer and later turned it into helping the Joan Dancy and PALS Foundation which helps those suffering from ALS. I profiled Doug in a Hometown View last Monday after joining him during his daily plunge. Seaside Park Mayor Robert Matthies presented Maday with a proclamation from the borough for efforts which helped raise about $6000 for the ALS support group.

• I was disappointed to learn that former Southern Regional High School standout Glenn Carson was released by the Arizona Cardinals Monday. The second-year linebacker out of Penn State made the Cardinals roster as a rookie and appeared in five games but was among 10 players cut yesterday. The 25-year old Carson, who won a state wrestling championship at Southern, will hopefully catch on with one of the other 31 NFL teams. He was also working out as a long snapper this summer.

• When is it time to take Donald Trump seriously? It is honestly starting to look like he has a legit chance for two reasons to win the Republican presidential nomination. First is that people are fed up with politicians and they don’t view him as one. Second is that despite the fact there are 16 other candidates none of them seem to resonate with voters on a large scale. Frankly they’re a boring group. Of course with Trump things could change in a hurry because he’s still a ticking time bomb when it comes to what he says.
PS- It’s time Governor Christie to give up this foolish bid and do your job here in New Jersey!
