Things are lining up nicely for the Yankees to win their 28th World Series title and first since 2009.

They completed a sweep of the pinstripe-fearing Twins last night to advance to the American League Championship Series which would begin Saturday in either the Bronx or Houston.  The news is even better because Houston could not complete a sweep of Tampa Bay earlier Monday and will now come back with ace pitcher Justin Verlander on short rest tonight.

If the Rays win and force a game five on Thursday then whoever wins would be at a disadvantage because the well-rested Yankees will have been able to set up their pitching rotation for the next round.

Now that he’s no longer running for president New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio can spend more time on planning a ticker-tape parade should the Bronx Bombers claim #28.

Could there by anything worse than being a diehard pro and college football fan whose favorite teams are the Jets and Rutgers?

By the way I am starting to believe that Greg Schiano will indeed return to coach at Rutgers for a variety of reasons, one of which is what name coach with a solid resume would take the job?

It’s becoming more and more obvious that the Scarlet Knights cannot compete in the Big Ten when it comes to football as they are simply overmatched.  Schiano may have more success in recruiting and I guess Rutgers could become one of those middle-of-the-pack teams but can you really see them competing with teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin  for conference championships?  I can’t.

As for the Jets…well let’s move on.

I cannot overstate how shocked I was that Wall beat Mater Dei Prep 14-7 this past weekend even though it was a matchup of 1 versus 2 in the Shore Sports Network Jeep Store Top Ten.

I was among those who did not believe any team in the shore could stay within three or four touchdowns of the Seraphs but the Crimson Knights turned in another amazing defensive effort against a team that had been averaging nearly 43 points per game.  Wall deserves all the credit for a great victory.

Congratulations go out to the Southern Regional field hockey team which clinched its third consecutive Class A South championship with a victory over Central on Monday as Maitland Demand scored three goals to lead the way.  Jenna Lombardo is in her sixth season as coach of the Rams.
