Videographer Boyd Loving, who took video of the rescue, reported online that the woman's car plunged into Arnold's Pond inside Goffle Brook Park off Goffle Road. A man and a uniformed Hawthorne police officer immediately ran to the pond to try and get the woman out of her sedan as it sank into the freezing cold water. A firefighter also joined the rescue effort.

The man who assisted police in the rescue was identified by CBS New York as Don McEwan, who said he was driving by at the time.

“If it happened to my wife, or myself, or anybody, I think in this town it’s like that. If it wasn’t me, I think the next person driving by would’ve jumped in,” he told the station.

The  woman was hospitalized, according to Loving, and her car pulled out of the pond by a heavy duty tow truck.
