UPPER TOWNSHIP -- A South Jersey family wants to know who shot their cat with a BB gun.

Aleks Morrison wrote on her Facebook page Dec. 28 that someone shot her cat Whitney three times with a BB gun, on her parents' property in Upper Township. The cat was also known to spend time at the nearby Custard Hut during the summer.

"She was the sweetest cat," Morrison told CBS Philly.

The cat had to euthanized, according to the report, after being shot twice in the chest and once in the hip.

Shore Animal Control is working with State Police and is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible, no questions asked, according to the agency's Facebook page. Animal control officer Holly Gavriow told CBS Philly she believes the cat was shot at close range.

Anyone with information about the case should call Shore Animal Control at 800-351-1822, or State Police at 609-861-5698.
