I’m often amazed at the dreadful condition of parking lots in shopping centers which are not only an eyesore but more importantly discourage you from doing business with the merchants in that shopping center or plaza.

Many seem to have gone decades without being paved and are filled with pot holes, cracks, dilapidated speed bumps. They look like videos you see of roads in the Middle East after bombing attacks.  Don’t dare dry and sip a cup of coffee while finding a spot that because that coffee will end up all over you.

I’m assuming that fixing or paving these lots is the responsibility of the landlord or maybe all the businesses in a particular shopping center but whatever it is don’t they realize money is being lost because customers will look the shop elsewhere.

This is something I have thought about for years and it really came to light recently when my wife wanted to stop in at Big Lots which I assume is considered the anchor store in the Toms River Mall which is on Route 37 at the jughandle for Washington Street.

Like many older shopping centers this one has seen better days and has more than its share of vacancies.  It also has a parking lot that is desperately in need of repaving unless you like to swerve around potholes, glass and assorted bumps and cracks to find a space.

I’m sure there are worse ones in and around Ocean County so I’m asking for your help and participation.  Send me pictures of what you consider a terrible shopping center or plaza parking lot and let’s see if we can come up with a top five. Or is that a bottom five?

Send me your pictures to kevin.williams@townsquaremedia.com or via the station app.

I’ll even come up with a prize for the best or would that be the worst one?  Happy driving!
