New Jersey is historically no stranger to having famous movies filmed here. So which movie that was at least partially filmed in the Garden State was the most successful?

First, let's mention some of the big movies that had important scenes filmed in New Jersey. Here are just a few, according to onlyinyourstate.com.  There is the great Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Brad Pitt flick Ocean's Eleven which featured scenes in Atlantic City and Rahway.

And there is the legendary flick Goodfellas, which had several scenes filmed at Garden State locations, including Marlboro. One of the great horror movies, Friday the 13th had scenes throughout New Jersey, including Freehold.

And one of the biggest budget Tom Cruise movies, War of the Worlds used locations in our state for filming, including Howell. But none of those were the most successful movie filmed in New Jersey.

So which movie is? Well, according to Wonderwall, that honor belongs to The Dark Knight Rises.  The 2012 flick brought in an amazing $1.08 billion, enough to put it in the top 20 grossing films of all time.

Key scenes of The Dark Knight Rises were filmed in Newark. So there you have it. The most successful movie that was at least partially filmed in the Garden State.
