A Longhorned tick has been spotted in Monmouth County, making it the sixth county in New Jersey to report a sighting. So, what do you do if you spot one?

So far, only one was spotted in Monmouth County, but what should you do if you spot a Longhorned tick. Here's what the New Jersey Department of Agriculture website says to do...

Put the tick, along with a small damp piece of paper towel in a sandwich bag, then put that bag in a Ziploc bag, then place it in the larger Ziploc bag and place it in the refrigerator. When you are ready to drop it off at the nearest drop off location, fill out the submission form and drop that into the larger Ziploc bag.

The drop off locations in our area are the County Mosquito Control Division at 1901 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls for Monmouth County, and the County Mosquito Extermination Commission, 784 West Bay Ave in Barnegat for Ocean County.

You can report a sighting of a Longhorned tick at 1-833-NEW-TICK. If you want more info please visit the New Jersey Department of Agriculture website.
