A survey by Edmunds.com finds that getting a flat tire is the number one worry for most drivers, with one in three drivers indicating that is their biggest fear.

One in four drivers worry about not having a rest stop in close proximity to them when needing to use the bathroom.  Another big fear for drivers is running out of gas, with one in five saying that is their biggest fear.

When it comes to driving, the lesson learned is to plan ahead. "It really pays to plan ahead for any kind of driving, but particularly for long road trips," said Carol Lachnit, an analyst with Edmunds.com.

Other fears include 6 percent of drivers who worry about getting lost for more than an hour and 3 percent who fear getting stuck with a dead phone and no car charger.

On the lighter side, 45 percent of those in the survey with kids say they threaten to "turn the car around" at least once during a road trip.

And when it comes to music, classic rock trumps pops when drivers were given the choice of road trip anthems.  Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" beat out songs from Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.
