Every week this season, Shore Sports Network will be recognizing the top Shore Conference boys lacrosse players of the week and putting all the nominees up for a vote to determine who the fans believe should bring home the Player of the Week award.

The Week 2 SSN Boys Lacrosse Player of the Week is Holmdel sophomore midfielder Will Gilfillan, who tallied 12 points in three games for a Hornets team that is pushing for a spot in the Shore Sports Network Top 10.

Holmdel began its week with a 14-2 victory over Toms River East where Gilfillan contributed two goals and one assist. Next was a 15-2 Class B North victory over Ocean with Gilfillan again helping to lead the way for the offense with three goals and two assists. In their final game of Week 2, Holmdel nearly came away with a top-10 upset before ultimately falling to No. 7 Howell, 9-8, on a goal scored by the Rebels in the final seconds. Gilfillan led the Hornets with three goals and one assist, which also tied the game-high in goals and points.

Gilfillan had a solid freshman season with 13 goals and 4 assists and has really taken off as a sophomore. His 22 goals and 38 points are second on the team and his 16 assists are tied with standout senior attackman Kyle Kapcsos for the team-high. He has recorded multiple points in nine of 10 games and has reached four or more points seven times.

Holmdel is 6-4 through the first three weeks of the season and has shown it can hang with most of the teams ranked in the SSN Top 10. All four of the Hornets' losses are to ranked opponents and outside of a 15-3 loss to No. 2 Manasquan, their losses to No. 9 Red Bank Catholic, No. 5 Shore, and No. 7 Howell are by a combined four goals.

This week's poll had a close finish with Gilfillan securing 32.44 percent of the votes to win over Toms River North's Evan Singer with Toms River East's Luke Barber finishing third.
