We know how we usually do in these studies. We assume we're somewhere near the top of the list of most inconsiderate states, we just hope we don't top the list. But these results may surprise you.

Deep down, if you live in New Jersey, especially at the Jersey Shore you don't believe we are inconsiderate. As a matter of fact, you literally think the exact opposite. We know that we are among the most considerate people around, but we also know our reputation. And we know how we do in these surveys.

So, exactly how did we do in this study at Moneywise? It turns out not too bad, especially if you were expecting the worst. The Garden State is the 14th unfriendliest state in America. But before we feel relieved, shouldn't we feel, well, pissed?

I mean, it's great that we're not at the top of the list, and it's exceptional that we're not even in the top 10. But shouldn't we be angry that we're not getting the credit we deserve for being a nice bunch of people?

We're so conditioned to expect the worst, that we skip right past what we deserve and head straight to being relieved that we didn't get our usual bad treatment. And that's a shame.

I'll go on a limb here and say we SHOULD be in the top 10. The top 10 friendliest states. We're the state that handles Jersey Shore summer tourists with appreciation and grace...most of the time, and that alone is an accomplishment in being considerate.

As a matter of fact, it's sometimes downright heroic.
