Allissa DeStefano, 30, of Toms River, was also ordered to perform 60 days of community service.

She has also been given a lifetime ban on owning any animals.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that the State argued for DeStefano to serve 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation.

The charges stem from November 11, 2019, when Lacey Police responded to a residence on a report that dogs had possibly been abandoned there.

It was a report that they confirmed once they arrived at the house seeing it was abandoned and they then discovered the remains of three dogs.

Lacey Police Detectives as well as detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Animal Cruelty Squad learned that DeStefano was responsible for the care of the dogs.

She had abandoned them in the residence, which led to their death.

DeStefano was indicted by a Grand Jury in June of 2021.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that Assistant Prosecutor Kimberly Carr handled the case on behalf of the State.
