Our first guest on Sunday will be 2004 Toms River High School East graduate and award-winning activist and author, Alicia Cook, who has provided valuable and personal insight into such topics as the mental health crisis and the disease of drug addiction.

In 2016, Cook teamed up with Producer Steve Rogers who put together an Emmy nominated documentary series called "Here's the Story: A Family Disease", which provided insight into what families like hers went through/go through watching a loved one battle addiction.

Alicia discusses her strong relationship with her cousin Jessica, who passed away from a heroin overdose, as well as how it impacted her, her family and also goes into detail on how this tragedy inspired her to want to help others which lead to her book "Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately".

In 2017, Cook published "Heroin is the Worst Thing to Ever Happen to Me" which includes her conversations with others who've watched a loved one battle addiction.

Then in 2018, Cook wrote "I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip", which dives into the ongoing drug epidemic as well as mental illness, relationships, and more.

In 2020, Cook published "Sorry I Haven't Texted You Back", a poetry collection that provides an in-depth look of mental health issues.

In 2021, Cook was the commencement speaker at her alma mater, Georgian Court University.

Through her years as an author and activist, Cook has provided invaluable insight into the aforementioned topics in her books, poems, and to us including on a 2021 panel that discussed the ongoing drug epidemic in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
