Three homes along the northern barrier island in the Ortley Beach section of Toms River, are uninhabitable after an early morning car fire ended up spreading to three residences.

The midnight fire sent police and fire units to Fielder Avenue around 12:20 am for a reported vehicle fire, according to Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina.

When police arrived at the scene, the Seaside Heights Fire Chief was already on scene and two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

There were several fire crews on scene, including Toms River Fire Department, Company #1, there to put out the blaze that went from the vehicles to three adjacent properties.

When the fires were out, the Toms River Building Department ended up taking a look and then rendered all three homes uninhabitable.

Everyone inside the homes were able to leave them safely, and there were no reported injuries at the scene.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the cause of the fire but it is not deemed suspicious.
