Three Arrested in A.C., Including Man With Loaded Gun as Necklace

Atlantic City Police say three people were arrested Wednesday afternoon, including a man that assaulted an officer and was found with a handgun around his neck.

According to a press release, around 4:15, ACPD detectives approached a vehicle in the unit south block of Tennessee Avenue in reference to a narcotic investigation. A detective approached the driver, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Gallipoli of Barnegat, who was in the process of smoking crack cocaine from a pipe. Gallipoli was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

Another detective observed the back passenger, 29-year-old Khalil Tate of Atlantic City, stuffing a package in his pocket. Tate was removed from the vehicle and the bag, which contained cocaine, was removed from his pocket. Police say after being told he was under arrest, Tate tried to run away. A detective was able to grab him as he fled and was struck in the face by Tate's elbow.

With assistance from another detective, Tate was taken to the ground where he again elbowed the first detective in the face, causing a laceration. Tate resisted arrest and continued to refuse to release his left hand from underneath his body. After a struggle, he was taken into custody. While searching Tate after his arrest, he was found to have a loaded handgun tied around his neck with a shoelace. Cops say the shoelace went through the gun’s trigger guard and hung like a necklace. Tate was also found in possession of 54 ecstasy pills and two bags of heroin.

While the detectives were arresting Tate, a second passenger, 33-year-old Stephanie Edwards of Pleasantville, attempting to flee from the area. She was quickly apprehended by officers and found to have several active warrants for her arrest.

Tate was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, and possession of weapon while in commission of a CDS offense.

Edwards was arrested for with multiple active warrants.

Gallipoli was charged with possession of CDS.

Tate and Edwards were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Gallipoli was released on a summons with a future court date.
