A lot has happened in the last seven months.

Is that the understatement of the year, or what?

Back in early March when we shared the news that the Toms River Modell's Sporting Goods would be closing, it was pretty big news. After all, the Route 37 location was one of only two left at the Jersey Shore at the time.

It would be fair to say that the news of the closure of the Toms River Modell's got overshadowed in the following days and weeks as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic took over pretty much everything, so you'd be forgiven if you've forgotten that it even happened in the intervening months.

But, the former Mo's store in the Toms River Center shopping plaza has a new tenant, at least for a few more weeks.

The 1 Route 37 West spot will be occupied by a Spirit Halloween store for the Halloween 2020 season.

The Toms River Spirit Halloween store is one of two Ocean County locations for the seasonal costume shop, with the other in the Kohl's and ShopRite plaza on Route 70 in Brick.

There are a few locations scattered across Monmouth County as well, with Halloween pop-up shops in Howell, Belmar, Tinton Falls, West Long Branch, Freehold, Manalapan, and Holmdel.

Obviously, a Spirit Halloween store isn't a permanent tenant for the old Modell's Sporting Goods, but it's definitely encouraging to see an uptick in retail activity at the shopping center.
