There have been many years when I remember saying that despite it being the shortest month of the year in terms of days it seems like February simply drags on as we struggle through the final full month of winter.  This is not one of those years.

Today is the final weekday of the month and when you return to work or school Monday it will be March 2nd.  Where did this month go? Truthfully where has winter gone?  It’s not like we’ve been in Florida and I know we’ve had a couple of somewhat cold days but this winter has been a breeze.

Back in mid-December I broke my favorite ice scraper and for about two weeks I kept trying to remind myself to buy a new one.  I didn’t want to come out at 3:45 a.m. in the morning on a work day and have to scrape my windshield with a lousy one or wait for the defroster to work.

However, I kept forgetting to stop into the auto parts store and buy a new one and then it was January, February and here we are on the doorstep of March.  I still don’t have an ice scraper but I haven’t had to use one.

Here’s another. I have about 4 pairs of gloves that I usually wear in the winter because I hate having cold hands.  Well, I think I’ve only worn gloves maybe 4 or 5 times and have not once worn a hat or even a scarf. It just has not been necessary.

As I have mentioned previously I am dealing with a back problem that will eventually require surgery and I was concerned about shoveling snow.  Well on those rare, and I mean rare, occasions where white stuff stuck to the ground it was very easy to shovel.

In other words, it does not feel like we have had “true winter” and I for one am not complaining.  This Sunday is the Belmar St. Patrick’s Day Parade and next Saturday is the Ocean County version in Seaside Heights.

Sure we might have some cold days ahead but there is light at the end of the winter tunnel and spring is just 20 days away.
