THE MONKEES TV Show Debuted this Day in 1966
Fifty-eight episodes of the sitcom called The Monkees aired on Monday nights on NBC, beginning this day in 1966. It was especially popular with young girls. The show's humor was loosely based on the Beatles first film, A Hard Day's Night. The series won an Emmy Award and ran for two seasons before running out of steam. The group's music, however, has held up much better than the series, and songs such as "Last Train to Clarksville," "Valleri," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You," "I'm a Believer" and "Daydream Believer" have become all-time classics.
