Friday, February 3rd is the 58th anniversary of "The Day the Music Died" - an event immortalized in the song "American Pie" by Don McLean.

BUDDY HOLLY, RITCHIE VALENS and THE BIG BOPPER were lost in the crash of a small Beechcraft plane over Clear Lake, Iowa after a concert. Also on tour with them, but not on the plane - Frankie Sardo, Waylon Jennings, and Dion & the Belmonts. Dion says he didn't want to pay the $36 to ride the plane and took the rickety cold tour bus instead - a monumental decision. A few of their hits are seen below.
