Police, EMT, firefighters and medical professionals have been and continue to be heroes for what they do each day here at the Jersey Shore and beyond, but now there are others performing heroically to add to the list.

When I think about lots of Jersey Shore residents who are understandably responding to coronavirus by staying home and avoiding any type of crowds, I can't help but think of those workers at our local supermarkets, pizzeria's, fast food places and convenience stores.

We all are stocking our freezers and pantries, and someone needs to ring these items up, and do it person after person all day long. These are hard working people who are literally making it possible for us to stock our shelves, who have families of their own.

And how about those supermarket workers are there for us each and every day and they are dealing with a lot of stressed customers. You are truly putting others ahead of yourself each time you go to work.

And this is also true for the people who work at the local convenience store. When the supermarket doesn't have the hand gel, we all take a chance on the local convenience store, and those fine people are there all day to help us.

And yesterday we ordered a pizza and felt good about supporting a local business, and then I thought about all the dozens of houses a night that delivery person stops at a night, which is a big ask in our current situation. And that's true for all the delivery people in the area.

And what about your local pharmacy employees, who are working each day while helping all their neighbors who are feeling under the weather for any number of reasons, and the pharmacists who are fielding endless questions from a nervous community.

And of course every single healthcare worker, police officer, firefighter, EMT and all first responders who bravely stand on the front lines of an unprecedented time for all of us.

These are just some of the people who immediately came to mind when I thought of this. So, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to the women and men who are there to help us with our needs during this very difficult time. Thank you for doing what you do. We will never forget it.

And thank you to anyone else putting others ahead of yourself to help us all deal with this trying time.
