I have to start with what qualifies as the most bizarre story of the year. Of course it’s only May and there’s plenty of time for others.

Police in Holmdel have finally caught the “mystery pooper” who was defecating on a regular basis on or near the football field and track at Holmdel High School.  Arrested and charged was 42-year old Thomas Tramaglini who just happens to be the Superintendent of Schools in Kenilworth and lives only a few miles away from Holmdel High School.

Needless to say he’s taking a leave of absence from Kenilworth and clearly the guy is a total nut job who should never be involved in education again.  Hopefully he will answer the most important question: did he bring toilet paper with him.

On to more “normal” notes:

Matt Cilento had two great years as the head football coach at Point Boro, winning 19 of 22 games including 11-1 this past season when he was named Shore Sports Network Coach of the Year.  The 40-year old stepped down this week and like others in his position it was a matter of choosing family over football.  Cilento needs to and wants to spend more time watching his four children play. Good for him.

Adam Sandler has made a lot of movies and sorry if you’re a fan but a lot of really bad movies.  However if you have Netflix and need a laugh then catch “The Week Of” which was just released by the streaming service.  As in the case of most of Sandler’s movies it did not get good reviews but I found myself laughing out loud and frankly I thought it was very funny.

I finally got a chance Thursday to see the state’s top ranked softball team in action as Donovan Catholic improved to 16-0 with a 9-0 win over Pinelands.  Junior Lindsay Nelson, a Drexel recruit, allowed just one hit and struck out 12 in six innings while adding three hits and a pair of RBI’s.

The Griffins lineup is loaded with players who have already committed to Division 1 programs and many of them are juniors and sophomores.  Coach Debbie Schwartz has built something special in just five years.
