A federal judge on Thursday upheld a 21-year-old law prohibiting sports betting in 46 of 50 states, dealing a setback to New Jersey's attempts to revive its struggling casino industry by grabbing a piece of what has become a multibillion-dollar industry, both legal and illegal.
A judge has cleared the way for the battle between New Jersey and the four major professional sports leagues and the NCAA over possible sports gambling in the state to continue.
Tuesday, New Jersey voters will be asked to cast a ballot as to whether they support changing the state constitution to allow sports betting at Garden State casinos and racetracks.
