An earlier bill had parents decide if kids should stay back due to the pandemic. Now there would be a consultation, with superintendents making final call.
A proposed New Jersey law in the making would bar school districts from reporting parents to the state for abuse or neglect when their child has a lunch account that's in arrears.
"Some school districts only keep surveillance footage for a short period of time, sometimes just a few weeks," said bill sponsor Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt.
To make sure graduation isn't disrupted for high schools seniors, legislators look to adjust state law so that overturned graduation rules become compliant.
