A live poultry market in Essex County is under quarantine and more than 1,000 birds killed after a case of bird flu was detected, state agriculture officials said.
The Jersey Fresh produce season has officially kicked off in the Garden State, with locally grown greens like asparagus and spinach available right now.
Officials say this is the time when the adults, who will not survive the winter, lay large egg masses that will hatch 30 to 50 nymphs each in the spring.
"We are targeting areas where severe infestations have been confirmed, and we also encourage residents to destroy the Spotted Lanternfly if possible when they see it," said New Jersey Department of Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher.
