Edie Walton has been a devoted listener of mine for as long as I can remember and pretty much on a weekly basis she calls me early in the morning and we chat for a few minutes about “stuff.”

Our conversations of late have centered around the weather with her usually asking me, “what season is it today” because both of us have been wondering when we are finally going to get a stretch of nice weather.

Well Edie it has arrived but with an asterisk next to it.

This morning was the first day I left the house without a jacket and I’m also wearing an IZOD polo shirt and of course shoes without socks.  That’s because today and the next couple of days will not feel like spring but rather summer with inland temperatures soaring into the upper 80s.

However before you pull out your bathing suits be advised that the extended forecast for the next couple of weeks is closer to what we should have for this time of year…upper 60s to low 70s as the daily high.  At least when Edie calls me next I can tell her to put away anything that resembles winter-like clothing.

On an unrelated note but one worthy of mention.  I will admit to not being a keen follower of high school track and field but the running exploits of Devin Hart are hard to ignore.

The Point Pleasant Boro junior recently became the first Shore Conference boy to win the 3,000 meter run at the prestigious Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the US and held annually at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Hart, who is the reigning outdoor and indoor state 3,200 champion is getting a lot of interest from colleges including Princeton, Duke and Stanford.  Obviously he shines in the classroom as well.
