The Food Bank of South Jersey says it’s facing a financial shortfall as it serves more people and sees less federal money. Food bank CEO Val Traore says $265,000 shortfall could reach $300,000 by the end of the year.

The food bank is hoping the Delaware River Port Authority will make good on its 2009 pledge for $2 million for it and two other food banks. Just after making the pledge, the bridge and train agency halted all contributions not related to transportation.

The DRPA still has $29 million in its economic development account. The agency’s finance committee met Wednesday but did not discuss what to do with that money.  In the meantime, the food bank is asking for more donations.
