One thing appears to be certain: the winter of 2015 is not going out quietly.

As we watch today’s rain melt away snow and ice that seems to have been on the ground forever it appears there is a good chance we’ll have a lot of shoveling to do Thursday & Friday.  I will leave the specifics to our meteorologist Dan Zarrow but some forecasts I saw said parts of the shore area could get double digit amounts of snow.

By the way, spring sports practice officially begins Friday. I don’t think there will be too many high school baseball or softball teams outside throwing the ball around.

The New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame will induct 34 new members during a ceremony on March 29th at the Pines Manor in Edison.  The new class will include Steve Hill, who coached the tennis teams to multiple championships at Toms River North for many years and John Truhan, the girls basketball coach at Central Regional who previously had successful tenures at both Toms River South and Colts Neck.

The National Federation of Coaches Association will also honor State Coaches of the Year at the luncheon and the honorees include Brick Memorial Boys Bowling Coach Michael Bilello, Lacey Girls Gymnastics coach Sara Jacobson, New Egypt Softball coach Kevin English and Lisa Kukoda, the girls basketball coach at Manasquan High School.

Coming off a stunning upset of previously undefeated Bridgewater-Raritan the Southern Regional hockey team will meet Howell in today’s NJSIAA Public A semifinals at Codey Arena in West Orange. Under first-year coach Matt Hayes the 9th seeded Rams are 17-4-4 and led by 16 goal scorers Brian Aji, Nick Godfrey and John Rowland along with goalie Nick Karp who has allowed just five goals in three state playoff games.

The Class A South champs will face 5th seeded Howell (21-4) who has outscored its three tournament opponents 19-3.  Leading the Rebels is Kyle Hallbauer who has 40 goals and 42 assists and goalie Bobby Dovenero.  The winner will face either Ridge or Randolph in the state final.

Quote of the day as seen on Facebook.  “I’ve reached the age were my train of thought often leaves the station without me.”
