It seems that in recent years there has been more attention than ever placed on getting enough sleep…the common thought is most adults should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 hours every day.  That is not something I have done for most of my 40 plus years working at WOBM when my alarm clock was set for somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30AM.  For the past few years 3:30 was the magic time…it might vary by a few minutes if I needed to shave.

However in order to get 8 hours sleep I would then have to go to bed at 7:30 and that simply was not going to happen.  For a good many years I would function on an average of just over 5 hours but has I have gotten older I recognized the need for a bit more so maybe it’s been more like 6-7 hours.  One problem I never had was falling asleep as on many nights I would be out for the count within minutes of hitting the pillow.  I really began enjoying a good night’s sleep more than ever over the past couple of years.

Well things have changed since my medical episode starting in late August.  Pain made sleep more difficult although I managed to work around most of that.  Then after having back surgery in mid-October it became increasingly difficult to fall asleep even with medication.  There were many nights when I was sitting in my recliner watching TV at 2 or 3 in the morning because I simply could not sleep which of course carried over into the next day.

I’ve tried a few alternatives….some have worked and some have not.  However in the last week or so I seem to be getting closer to normal although some minor pain limits my positions and at times makes a good sleep a bit challenging.  I know many have issues with this but I always took it for granted that when you get into bed at night it was easy to doze off until the morning.  Well not any more.

Sleep tight my friends!
