A Sunday afternoon fire along Welles Circle in the Suncrest Village Apartment Complex is under investigation by Manchester Police and the Ocean County Fire Marshals Office.

One person, among the residents being evacuated from the sixteen apartment units, became trapped on the building #18 second-story balcony but was rescued by firefighter emergency services personnel who responded to the scene.

The residents who were living in building #17 were also evacuated as a precaution Sunday afternoon due to the heavy winds at the time.

Manchester Police said that there were no human injuries reported in or from the fire, however, several pets perished.

Firefighters from Manchester, Ridgeway, Whiting, Joint Base MDL, Toms River #1, Pleasant Plains, Berkeley, Bayville, Manitou Park, Cassville, and Pinewald Pioneer all responded to the scene and helped in putting out the apartment fire.

There were also Emergency Medical Services from Manchester, Brick, Lakehurst, and Toms River who responded to the scene.
