Several Injured in Accident
A serious accident on the northbound New Jersey Turnpike in Linden between 3 tractor trailers and a NJ Transit bus has injured 8 people, according to the transit agency.
Spokesman Bill Smith says the NJ Transit bus was carrying 61 passengers on the 63 route bus that left Lakewood at 6:30 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Weehawken at 8:17. According to its schedule the bus made stops in Howell, Freehold, Manalapan and Old Bridge before heading towards the Turnpike.
Overhead shots of the scene show several ladders being used to assist passengers off the bus. ABC 7 reports four people were taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment with one suffering life-threatening injuries. The uninjured passengers were put on another bus to continue their trip.
The crash in Linden is near exit #13 (Goethals Bridge/I-278) with all truck lanes occasionally closed. New Jersey Fast Traffic's Jay Trelese suggests northbound drivers on the Garden State Parkway stay with that route as delays on both sides of the Turnpike extend back to #10 (I-287).
NJ Transit tweets that the accident is also causing 45 minute delays on buses traveling through that area of the Turnpike.
