The NJ DOT has announced that the Route 88 Bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal in Point Pleasant will be closed and detoured overnight Monday through Friday for two weeks starting on April 10 as the painting project advances.

Work will run each week day between 8:00 p.m. April 10 until 6:00 a.m. the next day, and continuing Monday through Friday nights for two weeks.

NJDOT’s contractor IEW Corp., will close and detour the bridge to repaint the towers and counterweights.

The full closure is necessary to lift the bridge to paint components that are not accessible while the bridge is in the down position.

The following detour will be in place overnight Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day:

Route 88 Eastbound detour

(April 8 – 19, Monday – Friday, 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.)

  • Route 88 eastbound motorists will be directed to turn right on Beaver Dam Road/CR 630
  • Turn left on Bridge Avenue east and go over the Lovelandtown Bridge
  • Turn left on Bay Avenue/CR 604 to Route 88

Route 88 Westbound detour

(April 8 – 19, Monday – Friday, 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.)

  • Route 88 westbound motorists will be directed to turn left on Bay Avenue/CR 604
  • Turn right on Bridge Avenue west over the Lovelandtown Bridge
  • Turn right on Beaver Dam Road/CR 630 to Route 88 westbound

To complete the project, overnight lane closures will be necessary for approximately one week between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. the next day, which is expected to take place Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 29.

At least one lane will be maintained in each direction while the work is taking place.

Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
