The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) wants to let drivers know that there will be daily left and right shoulder closures for about a mile in both directions on Route 72 in Stafford.

The closures are due to the start of intersection and roadway improvements.

The work will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m daily for the next few months starting on September 10.

Earle Asphalt Co., NJDOT's contractor will close a lane on Route 72 between the Garden State Parkway and the Stafford Square Shopping Center to create a work zone for drainage work.

The majority of the construction on the Route 72 East Road project will begin later this fall and is expected to be finished by late 2019.

The project will improve highway and signal intersection improvements to address congestion and safety concerns.

Some of the improvements include: a 10 foot shoulder in each direction on Route 72 between the Garden State Parkway and the Stafford Square Shopping Center, median widening, new barrier curbs and new traffic signals at two Route 72 intersections - Roosevelt Boulevard and Doc Cramer Boulevard.

The exact timing of the work could change due to weather. Check NJDOT's traffic information website for more.
