Rain Won’t Stop These Weekend Events

Hopefully by Saturday the weather will improve for a couple of outdoor events including the 4^th annual Pros versus Heroes Charity Flag Football Game on the beach in Seaside Heights.

It’s a matchup between former pro football players, including ex-Giants Stephen Baker “The Touchdown Maker” and Jay Alford against members of the Toms River Police Department.  Also on hand will be former Giants Pro Bowl running back Joe Morris and up and coming country music sensation Jesse Chris who will perform the national anthem.

In last year’s beach bash the cops came from behind to win 33-30 behind the passing of former Toms River High School North and McDaniel College quarterback Ron Sermarini.  The game will be played just south of Casino Pier from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. (rain or shine) and admission is free with autographs given after it’s over.

Also Saturday the Jersey Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of America will hold their annual Emergency Services Career Day & Awareness Expo at the Ocean County Fire & EMS Training Center in Waretown.  While it’s geared for all levels of scouting the event is open to the general public (including girls) with no age limitation and designed for all to learn about the emergency services.

There will be helicopters (both military and medical) flying and landing, ambulances, police cars, fire trucks, special service units and more.  Those attending will also see demonstrations of technical rescue teams, urban search and recovery units,

K9 units and more while meting the men and women of our local emergency services as well as the armed forces.

As part of the day the Boy Scouts will also recognize some local heroes and among them will be our own Bob Levy who of course passed away on March 1^st.  His wife Marianne will be on hand for this recognition of his 50 years of dedication and service to the community.
