Police and the Monmouth County SPCA responded but they were unable to catch the raccoon.

Neither the dog nor its owner were injured in the incident but police urge caution around wild animals.

"While no one was injured in this particular incident, we continue to encourage our residents to be vigilant and cautious around any wild animals and if you see any animals that are acting strangely or aggressive please contact the Belmar Police Department immediately."

If you see a raccoon or any other aggressive wildlife, you're asked to take precautionary steps to protect yourselves, family and pets and then contact your local police department.
