POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Relatives concerned about the welfare of a borough man called police to check on him. But the police visit resulted in a standoff that ended with the man going to the hospital.

Robert Faucher, 38, refused to allow officers into his home on Monday morning, telling them he was armed, which resulted in other law enforcement entities being called to the scene.

Det. Clint Daniel said after talking to police for several hours, Faucher surrendered and was taken to Monmouth Medical Center South for treatment.

Daniel, who was also the arresting officer at the time, said Faucher has been charged with second-degree creating a false alarm. The higher charge, he said, is because of the man being armed at the time of the incident.

Police said they did not find firearms in the home but found other "non-firearm weapons," which they did not describe in a statement.

The Ocean County Regional SWAT team, Ocean County Sheriff's Department, and the Point Pleasant Borough and Bay Head Police Departments all responded to the scene to provide assistance.
