Passenger of vehicle involved in GSP crash struck by separate car
20-year-old Cape May resident Amy Mathis was the passenger in a car that struck a concrete median on the Parkway Friday night. After Mathis exited the vehicle she tried to cross the parkway when she was struck by a passing car.
According to NJ State Police, the driver of a Ford Focus, 19-year-old Jordan Shelton of Del Haven, lost control and struck the concrete divider heading north near the Lakehurst Road exist just before 11 P.M.
Mathis got out of the car and was struck by a Toyota Highlander. She was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Shelton fled the scene but she was located a short time later and arrested for suspicion of DWI.
The driver of the Highlander stopped and remained on the scene.
No charges have been filed and the case is still under investigation.
