Norovirus Suspected In NJ College Illness

Officials suspect norovirus is to blame for sickening dozens of students at a New Jersey college.

Rider University says about 40 students on its Lawrenceville campus were taken to hospitals after experiencing symptoms of a gastrointestinal illness Wednesday night. Some have been released.

Rider officials believe it’s tied to a possible outbreak of norovirus at nearby Princeton University, where about 90 students have suffered similar symptoms since the beginning of the month.

Norovirus symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramping. They usually last up to three days. Rider University officials are cleaning all dorm bathrooms and buildings.

No classes are canceled and students are encouraged to wash their hands frequently.
