NJT rail crossing upgrade means detours in Asbury Park
Overhaul of a NJ Transit railroad crossing in a busy section of Asbury Park will send drivers to alternate nearby streets for about a week, with work scheduled to begin next Thursday morning.
According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), the crossing at Third Avenue will be completely renovated. During the work schedule, drivers will be routed to adjoining Second and Fourth Avenues.
The crossing is being given a concrete floor, and new asphalt is to be applied to the approaches, according to NJDOT. Agency officials say their rail-related upgrade program tackles about 30 crossings around the state each year.
Work is scheduled to begin at 7 AM on October 15 and continue until 7 PM October 21, weather permitting. The detour will be lifted sooner if the project is completed ahead of schedule, NJDOT said.
