Tony Williams, legendary lead singer of the Platters, was born in my hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey this day in 1928. He sang lead on all of their biggest hits - "The Great Pretender," "Only You," "My Prayer," "Harbor Lights," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," and "Twilight Time." He's on the left in the photo below.
