NJ Veterans Get Help to Become School Teachers
A new first in the nation program will put newly returning New Jersey Veterans on the fast-track to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and certificates to teach grades K-through Eight. It’s all part of a “VETEACH” Pilot Program being hosted by Richard Stockton College signed into law last week by Acting Governor Kim Guadagno (S-1026/A-1294).
Bill Prime Sponsor State Senator Chris Connors says Veterans who served in the armed forces on or after September 11th, 2001 can participate in the 36 month program at the Galloway Township institution this fall. He says it’s part of an employment initiative to try to get our Veterans back into the employment rolls. some of them have very difficult time coming back from active duty especially with the economic downturn.
Connors says educational expenses incurred by these eligible students could also be covered under the “Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act,” also known as the post-9/11 GI bill.
9th District State Assemblymembers Diane Gove and Brian Rumpf were also prime sponsors of the legislation.
