LONG BRANCH — Downed wires resulted in the suspension of service on a portion of NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line on Friday morning.

Spokesman Jim Smith said a dump truck took down overhead catenary wires at the Atlantic Avenue crossing near the Aberdeen-Matawan station around 10 a.m.

Service was restored around noon, according to a tweet by NJ Transit.

Two trains were caught up in the suspension, according to Smith. Buses have already taken 200 passengers off a westbound train that was at the South Amboy station. Another 150 passengers were on board an eastbound train near the Matawan station waiting for a diesel engine to tow the train.

Buses were  put into service between the two stations.

The North Jersey Coast Line runs between Bay Head in Ocean County and Rahway in Union County, where it joins the Northeast Corridor.
