Prepping for standardized tests such as the SATs can be one of the most stressful times in a young student's life.

For one, you're made to believe your entire future rests on those scores. Of course, as you get older, you come to discover that's a blatant falsehood. Still, the cycle continues as we continue to place that same pressure we felt onto our kids generation after generation.

Well, it looks like New Jersey students may actually catch a break this year. According to NJ.com, Governor Murphy has appealed to the Biden administration to excuse NJ students from standardized test requirements in 2021. Murphy reportedly cited the varying school situations across the state as the reason for asking in the first place.

If you think about it, Murphy's not wrong. It feels like each schooling situation varies from district to district, so to make students take a standardizes test as if they've all been on a level playing field for the last year and a half does seem a bit ludicrous. How can we expect students to perform their best on a test like the SATs if the education they've been receiving in both the 2020 and 2021 school years has been subpar?

The answer: you can't. Students have fallen behind. It's unfair to put added pressure on them to perform well on the SAT if they know well and good that they've barely been getting through their day-to-day lessons. It seems as though the state will be looking into what can be done to rectify what they're calling "learning losses" attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Get more on those details HERE.
