We live in crazy times. When you factor in the stress of the holiday season, many of us are a bit on edge.

I try not to take my frustrations out on others, especially those in the service industry.

Let's give a shout-out to our friends working as waiters and waitresses, servers, bartenders, chefs, the folks behind the counter including the support staff.

Think about what these people have been through over the past year and a half.

When the pandemic began many in the service industry lost their jobs or were furloughed.

If they were lucky enough to get a new job or return to their old one once the state began to open up again, it was chaotic.

Takeout lines were out the door and deliveries were at an all-time high.

When the mask mandate was lifted, many flocked to our favorite spot to grab a bite.

A lot of us.

Keep in mind, we were able to take our masks off, but those at the restaurants still had to wear them in very hot conditions.

Thanks to food service workers, we were able to have some normalcy in our lives when it was desperately needed.

That's why I was so happy to see a Jersey business stick up for their employees by making a statement that customers can't miss before walking in.

A round of applause to the owners of Simply Southern in Belmar.

Not only do they proudly support their staff, but they give impatient and unhappy customers an alternative to unfair complaining.

Grab an application and come to work! It's that simple.

Patience.

All of the above should be practiced 365 days a year, but especially during the holidays when businesses are busy and most likely understaffed.

So if an order gets messed up, or you have to wait a little longer, remember that the person behind the counter is most likely doing their best and deserves your kindness, empathy, and patience.
