Let me start off by saying that I can't even imagine the amount of pressure nurses have been under these last 14 months. The pandemic took an already difficult job and increased that level of difficulty tenfold. It's probably safe to say that nursing may just be the most dangerous job you can have amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have many friends that are nurses who've vented to me about how hard it is to do their jobs well when dealing with the fact that hospitals were overrun in many departments, not just on the COVID floors, mind you, but in all the typical departments like the ICU, the NICU, and cardiac units. Not to mention, most of them had to face the fact that at some point, they were going to have to do their jobs without the necessary fresh PPE that would work to protect them from the spread of COVID-19. Combine all of that stress with the stress brought on by the pandemic and it's pretty clear that this year took a toll on all of this country's nursing staff.

A huge shout-out has to go out to the South Jersey nurses on the heals of Nurses Week which start May 6th. For one, New Jersey was one of the worst states hit with the pandemic, so being a nurse here over the course of the last year definitely took a special kind of strength to get you through your day. For never losing heart, we thank you.

A new study published by WalletHub.com reveals that nurses in this state actually had it hard than you'd even think. New Jersey's overall ranking is the 4th worst state in the country for nurses. While NJ's pay is one of the best, it's factors like work environment and number of available nursing jobs that puts us at the bottom of the tier.

All the more reason to make sure the nurses in your life know that they're valued and appreciated for all the hard work they've put in - this year and beyond.
